Here is the last installment of my coverage for the 17U group from this years Summer Jam.
Ryan Meehan – 2024 – SG – MTXE
MTXE continues to find ways to win games reaching the quarterfinals and a big reason for that was the play of Meehan. An under the radar 2024 guard who just continues to produce and be an effective scorer. He started off the tournament scoring 17 points getting it mainly done hitting threes. At his best in the catch and shoot game, Meehan is smart with the ball and can hit shots off the dribble.
Azavier Robinson – 2025 – PG – George Hill All Indy
Robinson continues to prove he is one of the top players and prospects on the NY2LA Association. He is a dominant perimeter defender being able to shut down opposing guards and force plenty of turnovers but also score at a high rate having himself a 27-point game. An aggressive driver that scored it so well around the paint and mid-range but was also shooting it well from three.
Layton Starks – 2024 – F – Cave Gym Elite
The 6’5” forward has a good ability to play big inside with his toughness but also the skills to play out on the perimeter. Down in the paint he was outworking and overpowering opposing forwards to score effectively but was also making plays off the dribble moving well with the ball attacking the basket. On Friday he was able to have himself a 23-point game getting it done from all over the floor.
Gavin Van Wie – 2024 – SF – Wisconsin Swing
Van Wie scored the ball consistently throughout the tournament in the double digits including a twenty-point game. The 6’5” wing is a good spot up shooter from the outside, but can is also a versatile scorer. He has a strong frame and uses it well inside playing with good energy to make plays in the paint as well.
Jaheem Webber – 2024 – F/C – MidPro Academy
As part of a very deep 2024 MidPro team with numerous scholarship player, Webber consistently made an impact over the four days. There are few high school aged players that can match his size, strength, and physical play. Webber consistently scored in double figures finishing on a high percentage of his paint touches overpowering defenders as well as getting it done from the mid-post. Even at his size he moves well out on the perimeter defending forwards and switching onto smaller players. Over the weekend he picked up an offer from Wright State.
