2024 6’3 PG Dekwon Brown - Denard Bros Pro 17U
Dekwon Brown had the best weekend of any prospect I watched in Louisville, leading Denard Bros to a 4-0 record at session 2. A true floor general, Brown can impact the game in a variety of ways - defending full court, facilitating, attacking the rim, playing through contact, and knocking down jumpers. His best game of the weekend came on Saturday in a matchup with Azavier Robinson and a tough George Hill squad. Brown scored 25 points and made 6 threes, including some huge clutch shots down the stretch. Simply put, Brown is a competitor and a winner. He recently picked up an offer from Radford and I expect more schools to jump into the mix very soon.
2023 6’0 PG Angel Sonnier - Houston Superstars 17U
Angel Sonnier had the best single game performance that I watched in Louisville, scoring 29 points to lead Houston Superstars to a win over previously unbeaten Chapman Academy. Sonnier plays with the ball on a string, is a walking paint touch, has no problem splitting double teams and beating press defenses by himself, and made some impressive passes when drawing help on his drives. Maybe the most impressive part of Sonnier’s game is his touch and pace in the midrange area. He is always under control, uses quick bursts and change of speed to create advantages, and has a deep bag of floaters and finishes to avoid shot blockers. Sonnier was my biggest stock booster of the weekend.
2024 6’4 G Braylon Roman - MidPro Academy 17U
Braylon Roman is a smooth combo guard who had a big weekend for MidPro Academy. Roman’s best game of the weekend came on Sunday in a close win over Team Mookie. He scored 15 points, controlled the game in the halfcourt handling the ball with good pace, and showed off his jumper knocking down 3 threes and a couple midrange pull ups. Roman can play on or off the ball, guard multiple positions on the perimeter, and has the skill set and physical tools to translate to the next level. Roman holds offers from Bradley, Illinois State, Radford, Murray State, and Illinois-Chicago.
2024 6’5 SG Tim Franks - Chapman Basketball Academy 17U
Tim Franks was on fire all weekend for Chapman Academy, making 15 threes over 4 games. He has good size on the perimeter, and elite mechanics and shot prep, with a quick release. If he catches it with space, it's three points. Franks also has a lot of intangibles that impact winning - vocal leadership, is a great teammate and plays with toughness on both ends of the floor. In addition to his shooting, Franks had some strong takes to the rim when defenses ran him off the three point line, and has a high IQ offensively - moving the ball quickly and knowing when to pick his spots.
2025 6’2 G Markus Blackwell - Reach Legends 17U
Markus Blackwell continued his strong play this spring as Reach Legends completed a 4-0 weekend in Louisville. At 6’2 Blackwell is a true combo guard who can play on or off the ball. He can be a primary ball handler in the half court and facilitate, but is also one of the top scorers in the NY2LA association - able to get to the rim and finish, knock down shots in the midrange, and catch and shoot from three. Blackwell never seems rattled or out of control, even playing up a year in competition and has been consistent with his production.
2024 6’9 F Kyle Jorgensen - MN Comets 17U
Kyle Jorgensen is a skilled big man who had another impressive weekend for Minnesota Comets. Jorgensen can shoot it with range in pick and pops and as a trail big in transition, has good touch with both hands around the basket, is a high IQ defender, and is the best passer of any big I have watched this spring. He is an elite outlet passer, can bring the ball up after grabbing defensive rebounds, facilitate from the top of the key and out of double teams in the halfcourt, and even had a couple assists in transition leading the break himself. Jorgensen has been one of the top stock boosters over the first 2 sessions and I expect his recruitment to heat up over the next month.
