As we continue deeper into the spring and closer to the summer more and more players have taken great strides in their games. Here are several players that had big weekends for themselves with their play at the NY2LA Sports Invitational.
Jayden Awe – 2025 – F – Wisconsin Blizzard
A very intriguing forward that shows great upside. As well to having some size he also has great length. He is an agile forward with a good array of tools already. Not only did he score it around the paint but also showed the ability to drive to the basket. Defensively, Awe was blocking shots in bunches inside but also moves well enough to defend out on the perimeter in addition to rebounding at a high level.
Brynden Beck – 2025 – G – Wisconsin Warriors
On a team with a few quality guards, Beck stood out with his play especially on on Sunday. He moves well with the ball in his hands in addition to being a versatile scorer. Not only does he shoot it well from the mid-range and three but also got into the paint to score and distribute it. He is a guard that knows how to play and has the ability to do a bit of everything with the ball.
EJ Breland – 2025 – PG – Grind Family Chicago
Over the course of multiple games, Breland impressed and is a name to know in the 2025 class. Not only is a skilled and quick point guard that plays well with the ball, but he is also a knockdown shooter from the outside. In a single game on Saturday, Breland drilled five three pointers with his smooth stroke.
Garrett Clark – 2025 – G – 94 Feet Elite
One of the more skilled and smart guards at the 15U level. Clark has a smooth jumper and was hitting his shots at a high percentage from three as well as the mid-range. Much more than just a scorer, he has a good all-around game and some positional size at 6’3” plus the ability to play with the ball and get all the way to the bucket. He greatly impressed on Sunday with an 18-point outing.
Clevon Easton – 2025 – PG – Phenom University
One of the higher upside players at the 15U level of the tournament. He has good size in the backcourt already at 6’3” in addition to playing well with the ball in his hands. Easton moves very well attacking the basket maneuvering around defenders. He is a good finisher around the paint but was just as effective as a distributor. On the attack East showed very good vision and passing ability to be a key piece of this championship squad.
Gavin Grondin – 2025 – G – Wisconsin Blizzard
The guard play of Grondin was instrumental for all the success of the Blizzard throughout the tournament. He is strong with the ball in his hands and not only can facilitate it but score it well himself. At times Sunday in their run to the title game he could not be stopped getting to the basket as well as knocking down his threes. He showed a good ability to read the defense and see the driving lanes to quickly attack them.
Juan Guerroro Hernandez Jr. – 2025 – G – Chapman Basketball
The freshman is a lengthy guard that stood out on both ends of the floor. At 6’4” with his length and quickness he is a tough defender that can match up with multiple positions effectively. On the other end is a good slasher that moves well with the ball to get to the basket often and finish strong inside.
Amir Perryman – 2025 – PG – The Academy
Perryman continues to impress every time I see him play. Not only is he a tough attacking guard but really stood out with his defensive play over this tournament. He was playing with great defensive energy and with his quickness he can really defend in space. Perryman is also a good playmaker going to the basket. He gets plenty of paint touches with his handle and shiftiness to finish and create for others.
Will Sivak – 2025 – G – MTXE
While Sivak may not be the biggest of guards he is a very tough and aggressive one. On Saturday he led his team in a blowout win scoring 18 points while doing most of his damage attacking the basket as well as on put backs. Even at 5’10” he rebounded the ball well on the offensive end just outworking the opposition and finishing right amongst them inside.
