The annual NY2LA Sports Futures Camp tipped this past weekend and once again it featured an electric group of talent in the 2021-2024 classes. Some of the top 2022 prospects left on the board in the Midwest in 2022 were on the hardwood and once again they made their presence felt. We begin our coverage with a look at that standouts from the 2022 class from this past weekend…
2022 Camp MVP
Connor Essegian – 6’4 – SG – Central Noble (IN)
In a performance that would bring to mind former Indiana prep standout Kyle Guy who took off at one of our tournaments a few summers ago, Essegian was outstanding throughout the day. He posted the highest floor impact for the 2022 class at 32 FIPG and he was outstanding with his scoring, rebounding, and playmaking while shooting 64 percent from the field. He’s a legitimate Division 1 talent that high major schools should be looking at closely moving forward.
2022 Coaches Award
General Schofield – 6’4 – G/F – Carmel Catholic (IL)
An outstanding young talent, Schofield was exceptional defensively and he added some quality scoring, activity, etc. He quietly impressed throughout the day and his impact on both ends was solid and consistent.
2020 NY2LA Sports Futures Camp – Class of 2022 All-Camp Team

Logan Applegate – 6’2 – G – Nevada HS (MO)
A talented guard with an ability to score and create, Applegate has solid instincts and feel and he can do a little bit of everything. He has range, he sees the floor, and he is really just starting to take off. Already holding a couple of D1 offers, the talented guard had a solid overall showing this past weekend.
Leon Bond – 6’5 – SF – Wauwatosa East (WI)
A plus length athletic wing with an ability to score at multiple levels, Bond was active and aggressive at times and his overall floor impact was among the top 10 for his class on the day. He’s bouncy, can run the floor, showed an elite ability to score with either hand both in transition and in half court sets and he’s a solid rebounder with an improved overall skill set. Really like everything there is to see with him and he’s just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. D1 schools from all levels should be watching him closely moving forward.
Steven Clay – 6’5 – G/F – Menomonee Falls (WI)
A talented slashing wing, Clay played at a high level throughout the day as he scored at multiple levels, rebounded at a high level, and he was very activity defensively. Clay already holds Division 1 offers and the talented wing continues to trend upward with each passing month. He really did a nice job of filling the box score and contributing on both ends each position game in and game out.
Zachary Cleveland – 6’7 – SF – Normal Community (IL)
Another potentially elite forward with max effort, skill, and toughness, Cleveland was exceptional from start to finish on Saturday. He scored, cleaned the glass, hit the trey ball, created and basically filled the box score gam in and game out. He posted one of the top 5 overall floor impact scores at 25 for the 2022 class and he was very impressive in doing so. Another legitimate Division 1 prospect that all levels will need to see in the coming months.
Camren Edwards – 6’3 – PG – Alton (IL)
A late add to the all-camp team after glancing closely at the numbers, Edwards was very good not only at scoring the basketball but also with his overall ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively. He was active defensively and offensively he was excellent off the dribble in transition and in the half court sets. A quality overall day for the talented guard from Illinois.
Danilo Jovanovich – 6’7 – F – Whitnall (WI)
A highly efficient scoring forward with an ability to finish at all levels, Danilo shot the ball at a 58 percent clip with adding solid activity and energy to the court with his rebounding, shot clocking, etc. Already holding some Division 1 offers, Jovanovich continued to look the part of a Division 1 prospect that schools from all levels need to see moving forward.
John Lovelace Jr. – 6’7 – G/F – Brown Deer (WI)
An athletic and versatile wing with an ability to contribute on both ends, Lovelace displayed an efficient scoring ability with range that extended beyond the arc. He shot over 70 percent from the field and almost 57 percent from beyond the arc while grabbing rebounds, playing solid defense, etc. A late blooming talent, Lovelace is has quietly emerged as one of the premier 2022 prospects in the state of Wisconsin.
Jake Martin – 7’1 – C – Whitewater (WI)
A developing pure center with agility, instincts, and an improved skill, Martin took a huge step forward on Saturday with three consecutive high quality performances. He showed an ability to finish with either hand, he stepped away with some mid-range looks, and he showed an improved back to the basket game. Mix in some solid rebounding and elevated aggressiveness and the talented up and coming big really opened some eyes this past weekend.
Nick Martinelli – 6’7 – SF – Glenbrook South (IL)
A talented scoring wing who can finish at either level, Martinelli was exceptional throughout the day positing a near 30 FIPG, which was third behind that of Essegian (above) and Paveletzke (see below). He shot 61 percent from the field, almost 43 percent from beyond the arc, averaged close to 22 points a contest and he collected close to 6 rebounds a game. Mix in a few assists, some steals, and overall just flat out dominant play and it’s easy to see why Martinelli impressed on Saturday. Another D1 caliber talent on the rise.
Bryce Moore – 6’4 – G/F – Carmel (IL)
This came is exactly for guys like this as Moore came in a relative unknown and he landed on the radar with a couple high level performances. A slashing type wing with plus length and size, Moore was impressive time and time again with his overall activity and his ability to fill the box score and finish from anywhere on the court. Really like what he brings to the table now and he would he could become potentially. One to watch very closely in Illinois.
Jackson Paveletzke – 6’3 – G – Kimberly (WI)
He posted the second highest floor impact score of 30 FIPG on the day for the 22 class and he delivered the second highest efficiency score of 18.3 EPG for the entire camp regardless of class. He delivered an 8-1 assist to turnover ratio average over the course of 3 games, shot 69 percent from field, ripped off a 60 percent rate from beyond the arc, and he collected almost 5 rebounds per contest. He was outstanding on all levels.
Seth Trimble – 6’2 – PG – Menomonee Falls (WI)
He walked in with a bit of a sore ankle suffered in an open gym earlier in the week but that didn’t keep him from impressing once again with both his continued development and his overall athleticism. He shot 60 percent from the field and close to 63 percent from beyond the arc over the course of the three games and he contributed on both ends of the court both with his creativity as well as his instincts on the defensive end. Already holding offers from USC, TCU, UW-Milwaukee, etc. Trimble continued to look the part of the high major elite guard he’s regarded to be.
Jamauri Winfrey – 6’3 – G – Peoria Richwoods (IL)
A do it all perimeter talent with an ability to score, defend, and fill the box score, Winfrey was impressive throughout and he really elevated his play the last couple of games. He excels in transition or attacking the rim off the bounce and his overall activity was impressive and helped him rebound and disrupt things on the defensive end. He had a really strong showing this past weekend and he’s firmly positioned as a player to watch moving forward in the state of Illinois.
