The 2020 NY2LA brought many of the top players from the Midwest and beyond all under one roof just outside of Milwaukee. With prospects from a dozen states, the youngsters were broken up into two separate sessions: The classes of ‘21/’22 and the classes of ‘23/’24. Games were all livestreamed, college coaches were buzzing all day, and regional battles were definitely had throughout the day.
Here are some of the 2021 standouts from the 2020 NY2LA Futures Camp:
Brandin Podziemski, 6’5, SG, St. John’s Northwest Military Academy (WI)
Podziemski continued to show why he’s one of the more sought after shooting guards in the Midwest with his play at the Futures Camp. The lefty was great coming off of screens, showed effortless range beyond the three point line, and surprised a lot of guys with his ability to play above the rim. Brandin appears to be destined to sign in the late signing period, so he’ll have plenty of time to show his stuff in front of college coaches.
Hercy Miller, 6’2, PG/SG, Minnehaha Academy (MN)
One of the best on ball defenders that the event had to offer, Hercy Miller showed that he’s got quite a bit in his bag offensively as well. He showed great burst coming off of ball screens, finished creatively at the rack, and consistently made the correct reads. Having already narrowed his list of potential colleges to 7, Miller appears ready to make a college decision in the coming future.
Grant Asman, 6’9, PF, Kimberly HS (WI)
One of the most skilled bigs in the event, Grant Asman made a huge impact with his ability to play both inside and out. He stepped out to shoot threes, consistently found open cutters, and made his impact felt on the defensive end as a shot-blocker. Owning an offer from Army, Asman is hearing from a ton of other D-1 programs with more offers bound to come soon.
Andre Gray, 6’3, SG, Minneapolis North (MN)
Another outstanding defender, Andre Gray used his long arms and bigtime athleticism to put the clamps on people on the perimeter. Offensively, he was a really good straight line driver, finished above the rim, and showed improved range on his jumper. Gray already owns a number of D-1 offers from programs who are in need of an immediate impact defender.
Amar Aguillard, 6’4, SF, Zion Benton HS (IL)
Arguably the most productive 2021 at the camp, Amar Aguillard showed high major athleticism with a motor to match. He absolutely punished the rim, was a monster on the offensive glass, and stepped out to drill a few threes. While he doesn’t check the box for a number of prototypical wings, Amar has proven to be one of the most consistently productive seniors in the Midwest, as seen with the 40 point game he posted at the Futures Camp.
Isaiah Davis, 6’5, SF, Minnehaha Academy (MN)
A super high motor player, Isaiah Davis brought an immense amount of energy to the NY2LA Futures Camp. He was a monster offensive rebounder, made incredibly timely cuts, and got his hand on a ton of balls defensively. Holding three D-1 offers right now, he’ll have his choice of plenty more programs by the time it is all said and done.
Brennan Weller, 6’5, SG/SF, Edwardsville HS (IL)
A guy I was totally unaware of prior to the event, Brennan Weller was a senior who I definitely plan on tracking throughout his final high school season. He was incredibly productive, had a really nice jumper from beyond the three point line, and was automatic pulling up off the bounce. Outside of the Chicagoland area, Weller is definitely a guy to keep an eye on in the state of Illinois.
Donald McHenry, 6’0, PG, Milwaukee Academy of Science (WI)
As far as point guards were concerned for the 2021 class, Donald McHenry was right there with the best of them. The lefty was able to create his own shot at will, hit a number of deep jumpshots, and showed off a great change of pace. McHenry is a guy who would have really blown up amidst the live period, and is definitely one to track throughout his senior year.
