The 2018 installment of the annual NY2LA Sports Swish N’ Dish platform was once again loaded with highly regarded prospects and some sleepers on the rise. We continue our coverage this week with a glance at a handful of below the radar talents or young talents that really opened some eyes this past weekend in Wisconsin…
STOCK BOOSTERS
Tom Welch - 2019 (Illinois Wolves 17u) - After watching Welch throw down one of the most impressive dunks of the 2017 NY2LA Summer Jam last summer I was excited to watch him and his Illinois Wolves squad. Welch has good athleticism for his size and he knows how to use it to his advantage. His skill set has improved over the last 6-8 months as he was scoring from all different levels. The bouncy 6-8 forward helped lead his team to a 2nd place finish in the 17u platinum bracket.
Carlos Ramsey - 2019 (Milwaukee Spartans-Rebels Elite 17u) - Ramsey put on high level performances all weekend long. After scoring 21 points in an opening round match up against All Ohio Red EYBL the 6-5 forward carried that momentum into Saturday and dropped 30 points against Ramey-Jets United. Ramsey was attacking the rim hard finishing through contact and using his bounce to finish above the rim. Look for Ramsey to open a lot of eyes this spring and summer.
Kimahri Wilson – 2021 (Hoop Avenues Manimal 15u) - Wilson is a pure player who was one of the more exciting 2021 prospects to watch last weekend. The 6-1 guard can blow by defenders using his quickness with ease. Always looking to make the right pass his teammates must be ready because if their open Wilson will find them. Although he's a great passer he can also score the ball in a variety of different ways and is at his best in transition. He isn't a great shooter yet but his shot looked more improved then last summer. Wilson helped lead his Hoops Avenue team to a 3-1 record on the weekend.
David Skogman – 2019 (Ray Allen Select 17u) - Skogman showed a little bit of everything this weekend for a talented Ray Allen Select team. He threw down a couple of dunks, blocked shots, and was hot beyond the arc. Standing at 6-10 he stretches the floor as good as any big I watched this weekend because of his ability to knock down threes at such a high rate. Skogman is a prospect who Division 1 coaches will be tracking closely this spring and summer.
Amari Bailey – 2022 (Mac Irvin Fire 16u/15u) - Bailey was phenomenal all weekend long for Mac Irvin Fire. The young prospect was making big time plays including a deep three at the buzzer to take down REACH Legends 16u. He has a very advanced skill set for an 8th grader and he was showing it off by getting his way with older defenders all weekend long. He showed off some bounce too with a couple of dunks and impressive tipins around the rim. Baileys most impressive game of the weekend was against 15u Milwaukee Spartans when he dropped 27 points and 8 assists.
SLEEPERS
Martin Macenis - 2019 (ET21 Buckeyes 17u) - A highly skilled and long 6-5 forward that has a very developed game is the best way to describe this intriguing 2019 prospect. An excellent outside shooter Macenis was knocking down shots all weekend off the catch and he showed that he can create his own space too. Really creative around the rim and was finishing tough baskets. Macenis had a breakout performance against Next Level 24 Elite dropping a game high 25 points.
Anthony Washington – 2020 (Wisconsin Swing) - Washington was very impressive for the Swing. Still a raw prospect with a very high upside the 6-3 forward showed off his athleticism, skill set, and explosiveness throughout the weekend. At times Washington was in complete control of the game in Swings very impressive win over All Ohio Red EYBL and in his game high 18 point performance in another very good win against REACH Legends.
Isaac Lindsey – 2020 (Phenom University 16u) - Lindsey was knocking down shots left and right for Phenom University when he got things going. Defenders are forced to know where he is at all times because of his ability to knock down open shots at such a high rate. Lindsey also showed some creativity around the basket and off the bounce he was able to create for himself and his teammates. Lindsey is one of the best pure shooters in the 2020 class and will have high majors watching him closely this spring.
Khristian Lander – 2021 (EG10 15u) - One of my favorite 2021 prospects of the weekend was on full display throughout the weekend but most importantly on championship Sunday. In the 15u Gold Championship Lander was relentless against the long and talented Milwaukee Spartans. Lander finished with 21 points including a game winning layup with 1 second left in the game. Landers is a great ball handler, a good shooter, and a great decision maker making him a very promising 2021 prospect that will open a ton of eyes this spring and summer.
Logan Landers –2021 (Milwaukee Spartans 15u) - Landers was great for the talented and deep Milwaukee Spartans. The 6-9 forward showed off an improved offensive skillset that included a very nice and soft touch from beyond the arc. Landers was finishing at the rim using his footwork and post moves. He was cleaning the glass and blocking shots too.
