The competition for the top performers in Session 3 of the NY2LA Grassroots Showdown was tougher to obtain as so many players continued to step up their game from week to week. Here's a look at some that stood out this past weekend...

Antwan Burns-Jones – JH1 Elite – G
Sophomore with good overall point guard skills. He is strong with the ball in his hands and does a good job of moving the ball and getting everyone involved. Shows a high basketball IQ, does not turn the ball over and makes good decisions with the ball. While he has a good ability to score on his drives, he is an unselfish player that played more of the role of a distributor.

Dino Cook Jr. – World Hoops Elite – F
Over the course of the three sessions of the Grassroots Showdown, Cook has continued to show more and more skills. In previous weeks, he impressed the most with his spot up shooting from three and scoring on the block, this time around it was with his ability to put the ball on the floor. While he was still doing the other things, the sophomore looked more comfortable taking defenders off the dribble and getting all the way to the basket.

Jacob Dunham – Chapman McCabe – G/F
The strong wing is a good versatile scorer who puts up big point totals without forcing anything. Did the majority of his scoring around the basket but is also able to stretch it out from the mid-range and three. Has a good motor and beat defenders in a number of ways. Had one of the better games of the tournament putting up 24 points and 16 rebounds.

Jacob Fries – Chapman Elite – G
The 6’0” guard had one of the more impressive scoring displays putting up 27 points in a single game. He was big down the stretch scoring the ball in bunches to lead his team to a tough win. Fries has a good-looking jumper when spotting up from three but also scored it going to the basket often in the half court and transition.

Dominic Jankowski – AIA Williams – G
Jankowski is a versatile 6’2” guard that did a bit of everything for his team. He played a big role for his team defending opposing guards and forwards alike. Plus, he is a strong driver who got to the paint often and finished well there. He has a good motor and also created good looks for his teammates when drawing help off the dribble.

Cal Klesmit – Wisconsin Blizzard – G
Klesmit is a skilled guard that gets a lot done on the floor and can really score the basketball. He has a smooth jumper to hit shots well from both the mid-range and beyond the arc off the catch and dribble. Was also tough off the dribble attacking the basket drawing contact to get himself to the free throw line plenty.

Jeremy Lorenz – Wisconsin Crusaders – F
The 6’6” forward has a high ceiling with all of his skills, size, motor, and mobility. He does a good job of protecting the paint but also moves well enough to switch onto smaller players out on the wing. Lorenz was big on the boards, just going up to grab them over opponents in bunches. Strong finisher around the paint right over defenders.

Milan Momcilovic – TH 2023 – F
Momcilovic continues to force his way onto this top performers list with his extraordinary play. The lengthy wing forward has a very good skill set for being a 6’8” sophomore. He makes his biggest impact with a very pretty perimeter jump shot but can also put it on the floor and get to the hoop. Very high-level shooter continues to knock down shots. He keeps showing he is one of the top players in the 2023 class around.

Anthony Sydnor – UTS Elite – G
The 2023 guard had an impressive showing over the weekend scoring the ball at a very high level over multiple games. He is very good off the dribble scoring the basketball. Strong driver with shifty moves to get to the paint often and finish well. Also has the ability to rise up and knock down jumpers.

Andrew Verhelst – Wisconsin Crusaders – G
Verhelst is a 6’3” guard with nice all-around skills that did a bit of everything on both ends. He is a tough and active on ball perimeter defender that is tough to beat and was able to force a few turnovers. Verhelst scored it well going to the basket strong on drives and cuts, plus he added some shots from the mid-range. As well he contributed by grabbing several rebounds and showing a good passing ability to make a big contribution for his team in a sizeable win.
