When Lovell Williams was a freshman at STMA I was an AAU coach attending freshman games looking for 15U kids. Lovell was a relatively small point guard but even for his lack of size, he was productive in all ways for winning. Scored when his team needed, ran the offense keeping everyone involved, and moved and worked on defense.

Four years later, Lovell moved his way to Maple Grove and is the starting guard on a 19-4 4A school. In a double OT loss to 20-3 Spring Lake Park, Lovell scored 35 points. Then February 18th, 2020 Williams hit the game winner over rival Park Center.

For 2019-20 Williams is averaging 15.5 points per game, 4.8 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, contributing to winning games for the Crimson.

Q: How's the season going so far?
A: Pretty good, a few tough losses but overall a great season so far.

Q: I saw you hit 35 the other night, otherwise how have you played?
A: Pretty consistent I would say. I’ve had a great year doing a little bit of everything trying to help my team win. Hopefully I can keep my play up through sections and hopefully state.

Q: Last year to this year have been pretty different for you with playing time, was it difficult waiting for your time to come?
A: A little but I understood why my minutes what they were. I had a great guard ahead of me, former teammate Jared Rainy, and I was undersized when it came to match ups. But I took the minutes I was given and tried to make the most of them.

Q: Is there things you learned from Jared last year that enabled you this year?
A: Yes. Just from watching him, he was always composed. Didn’t look rattled or panicked in clutch situations or big games and always kept his composure and that’s one thing that stuck with me.

Q: How's recruitment going for you?
A: A few D3 and JUCO schools have reached out and showed interest.
