CJ Brown is a six-foot two-inch point guard from Minneapolis North High School in Minnesota. Brown for 2019-20 is averaging 7.2 points per game, which is sixth highest on the team as North has five players averaging more than seven a game.

Brown strives to be a solid defender as he and his teammates are working on their ultimate goal of winning State. In 2A, Minnehaha Academy was moved up a class, so North remains the favorite. The dedication to playing defense will test North this March as St. Croix Prep and Perham are still undefeated and Caledonia and Lake City have just one loss.

Q: How's the season going so far?
A: It’s going okay. Not as planned, but still got one goal ahead of us.

Q: That goal is to win state?
A: Yes.

Q: What's it like playing for a Minnesota coaching legend?
A: It’s amazing to be honest. He pushes us every day and pretty much gets ready for a college.

Q: His focus hasn't been just basketball and other sports it seems. Are academics very important in his teaching you guys?
A: Yes very important.

Q: That's great. Congratulations to everyone that made the honor roll. What's part of your game do you think separates you from other players?
A: Thanks. To be honest, my shooting, defense and leadership. My two brothers Willie, Davon, and I all play a role in leading our squad.

Q: Something people often criticize young players is lack of wanting to play defense but a lot of the elite kids in Minnesota I talk to say defense is important. You take pride in guarding and making an impact on that end?
A: Yes it’s old saying but I still go by it, offense wins games. Defense wins championships.

Q: How's recruiting going for you?
A: It’s going okay. I’m talking to coaches here and there, but Hampton University is still the only school I know that has offered me.
