On Saturday, Minnesota State Moorhead picked up a commitment from Reid Gastner. Gastner, is a 6’4” senior guard/forward of Lake City High School and played with the Minnesota Comets. He marks the third commitment in the 2020 class for Moorhead as he joins guard Gabe Myren and wing Drew Hagen.

Gastner picked the Dragons over his other scholarship offers from Northern State and University of Jamestown. As well, he had interest from a number of schools in the Northern Sun Conference. He made his decision after recently taking official visits to Moorhead and Northern State over the last few weeks.

The senior made his decision for multiple on and off the court reasons. “Their basketball program showed me a lot. When I went on my visit their team was super close together and it was a family feeling. They have also been pretty successful in their program,” Gastner said.

He also had high praise about the coaching staff, calling them amazing. He mentioned that amazing coaching staff and his relationship with them as the main reason for committing now. “I love what they have going on in Moorhead with their program.”

For the non-basketball reasons Gastner told us “the school has a very good business program which is what I want to go into. Also, I really like their campus and it’s a really nice area being next to Fargo.

Gastner sees himself fitting in nicely with his future college team. “I fit into Moorhead because they need a guy who has a tough mentality and will do the dirty work. They also like shooters there and I fit that role. I’m always willing to do the dirty work and lockdown the other team’s best player. I love the competition.”
